Use the station directory as an index
A large radio directory is most useful as a route into a smaller decision. Start with one fact you trust, such as a country, language, genre, or part of a broadcaster name. Apply a second filter only when the first result set remains too broad. This keeps weak or missing public metadata visible instead of hiding it behind an unexplained recommendation score.
Station names, logos, votes, and click activity are discovery clues rather than proof of ownership, audience size, or programme quality. Open the station record, confirm the listed homepage when available, and listen long enough to recognize the service before saving it.
Read stream and identity fields together
Codec, bitrate, HLS delivery, language, tags, country, and homepage each answer a different question. None of them alone proves that two similar records are the same station or that a feed represents a local terrestrial signal. Compare several fields and prefer a record whose identity remains coherent.
A successful directory check means the source responded at the last catalogue synchronization. It is not a real-time schedule, a guarantee of continuous playback, or the word “live” in the editorial sense. The player confirms the current browser connection only after it starts.
What to do when a directory record is wrong
Broadcasters can replace streams, domains, branding, and programme formats between synchronizations. If a record fails, try a comparable station to separate a local browser problem from a single-source failure, then check the broadcaster website when the domain is credible.
Report stale streams, suspicious domains, duplicate identities, incorrect locations, or misleading tags through the public contact page. Include the station page URL and the time of the failure so the record can be checked against fresh directory and official-source evidence.
